The conference GEOLOGICAL RESERVES IN ROMANIA – ASSESSMENT, GEOCONSERVATION, INTERPRETATION, organized within the project PN 19 20 05 02 of the National Research and Development Institute for Marine Geology and Geoecology – GeoEcoMar entitled “Valorization and promotion of geological heritage in Romania by developing a geoconservation strategy unity at the national level”, will take place between November 24-25, 2022. The conference is organized in partnership with the University of Bucharest, the National Forum of Geoparks in Romania and the Geological Society of Romania.

The purpose of the conference is to discuss geological issues related to geological heritage, geoconservation, education and promotion of geosciences. Currently, in Romania there are numerous natural monuments and geological reserves of national importance, to the declaration of which specialists from universities, museums and research institutions from all over the country contributed. Although most of these geological and paleontological reserves are included in the Natura 2000 biodiversity protection network, geoconservation measures are the exceptions, not the rule. What can the geological community do about this?
